Montgomery Transportation Group was excited to attend the Women in Trucking (WIT) Regional Event at the McLeod Conference Center in Birmingham, Ala. Held August 17, our team learned more about breaking the barriers to entry for women in the trucking industry and ways we can be more accommodating.
Women In Trucking Association President, Ellen Voie, discussed how trucking companies can work to attract and retain women as professional drivers.
We especially enjoyed seeing the association’s Driver Ambassador Trailer on site. Officially named WITney, the trailer features an empowered woman wearing a cape behind the wheel with the messages, ‘Redefining the Road,’ ‘Safe, Strong, Independent,’ and “You Can Do It!’. Inside the trailer is an educational mobile unit that introduces the career of professional truck driving, features personal success stories from female drivers, and shares the history of the association and its mission. Interactive kiosks quizzed us on our knowledge of the trucking industry. There was also a state-of-the-art driver simulator and a display of a woman’s industry uniform. Check out some of our photos to see these up close!
This free, half-day event was open to managers and employees of trucking and logistics companies like ours. There was a great group of companies attending in support of the association’s mission: To encourage the employment of women in the trucking industry, promote their accomplishments and minimize the obstacles they face. WIT is supported by a passionate leadership team, highly engaged members, and committed sponsors and partners.
Montgomery Transportation Group is proud to be a corporate sponsor of this amazing organization and looks forward to being a part of paving the way for #WomenInTrucking.
